The Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain, near Chattanooga, TN, has a section of track that is the steepest grade in the world for any passenger-traveled rail line (70-something percent).  It's all of a mile long, from the bottom to the top.  There are two cars, pulled and held by cables.  When one's going up, the other is heading down, because they are connected.  A pretty cool ticket.
